Brushy esports teams made two more playoff appearances to cap the 2023 Spring Major in the Middle School Esports League (MSEL).
One appearance was for Super Smash Bros., a one-versus-one game. The league’s top 16 players qualified for the MSEL playoffs and Brushy ended up having four make it — Owen Plattner, Liam Plattner, Justice Sayre and Peyton Sells.
Of the four students, one made it to the Elite Eight and two made it to the Final Four where Owen Plattner finished in third place. It was the school’s first Top 3 finish in the MSEL’s Super Smash.
Another set of students, an all-girls team, made it to the finals for Mario Kart in the team’s inaugural season. Mario Kart is a team-based four-versus-four game, where teams compete in four races of three laps per race and can be on four different tracks.
In another first for the Sequoyah County school the girls team placed second by the end of the six-week-long season, a finish that locked the girls into the playoff finals. With the first-year team comprised of fifth graders Cannan Gibson, Avery Taylor, Alivia Lloyd, Breelyn Thomas and Addison Young, Brushy anticipates a bright future in esports with veterans returning next year.
Brushy’s esports teams are coached by Cody Walters.
