Funeral services for Sallisaw businessman Joe F. Peters, 84, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Sallisaw.
Peters and his wife, Trudy, started Peters Agency Care Management in 1995. Through the years they added Home Health, Provider Services, Hospice, and Palliative Care. They contributed to Sallisaw and the surrounding areas for many years, and recommend community involvement to all. Peters was born and raised in the Seven Oaks community, just a few miles northeast of Sallisaw, where he also attended school. He went on to attend Central and Sallisaw High Schools, graduating in 1956 as a member of the State Honor Society.
He enlisted in the Air Force in May 1956. After Basic Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, he was assigned to USAF Security Service. He attended and graduated from Russian language school at Syracuse University and served overseas in Japan from 1957-58. He came back to Oklahoma to complete his Pilot Training at Vance AFB in Enid from 1963-64.
He went on to have an extensive career in the military, serving as a pilot, aircraft commander, instrument instructor pilot and flight commander, operations officer, aircraft maintenance quality control office/field maintenance supervisor, and operations plans staff officer. He retired from active duty in 1980. Peters also served two tours in Vietnam.
He was a member of the county jail trust, and chairman of the Sequoyah County Republican Party.
