WEEKEND BASICS

•The top-ranked and No. 1 national seed Sooners open NCAA postseason play with the NCAA Norman Regional, May 19-21, at Marita Hynes Field, playing host to Hofstra, Missouri and California.

•2023 marks the fourth straight season the Sooners have been the No. 1 seed. The program has been a national seed for each of the past 16 seasons, hosting a regional for the 12th year in a row.

•This is the fifth time in program history and fourth straight season that the Sooners have been the top-seeded team, also earning the No. 1 spot in 2013, 2019, 2021 and 2022.

•OU begins regional play vs. Hofstra on Friday at 4 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on ESPNU with Jenn Hildreth and Carol Bruggeman calling the regional action throughout the weekend. With a win, OU would meet the winner of Missouri vs. Cal on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. The regional final will be Sunday at 1 p.m. with an if-necessary game later in the day.

•All games can be heard via 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma or nationwide on The Varsity Network app with Chris Plank and alum DJ Sanchez on the call.

•OU is on a nation-best 43-game win streak dating back to the Sooners only loss of the season, Feb. 19 at Baylor in a non-conference matchup in Waco. The streak is a program record and stands as No. 2 in NCAA DI history, just four games shy of 1995-96 Arizona’s 47 game run.

•Oklahoma completed the Big 12 title sweep last weekend in OKC, claiming the program’s 23rd overall Big 12 title (15 regular season titles and 8 tournament crowns). The Sooners have won 11 straight Big 12 regular season titles.

MAYHEM

•Oklahoma has made the NCAA Tournament 29 straight seasons and every year of head coach Patty Gasso’s tenure since 1995 (tournament was not played in 2020). The Sooners are tied with Washington for the longest active postseason run.

•Oklahoma has been a national seed for each of the past 16 seasons. This is the fifth time in program history and fourth straight season that the Sooners have been the top-seeded team, also earning the No. 1 spot in 2013, 2019, 2021 and 2022.

•In 2022, OU reached its 15th WCWS in program history, culminating in the program’s second consecutive and sixth national championship. The Sooners have won four of the past six WCWS crowns.
