CAROLLTON, Texas — Oklahoma State women’s golfer Maddison Hinson-Tolchard clinched a spot in the 78th U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links after earning medalist honors at the qualifying site in Carrollton, Texas last week.

Playing at Indian Creek Golf Course, Hinson-Tolchard shot back-to-back rounds of 68 to finish the 36-hole event at 8-under and claim one of two qualifying spots. She finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Farah O’Keefe and was one of just five players to end the week under par.

The reigning Big 12 Player of the Year has been playing some of the best golf of her career over the last month, winning the individual title at the Big 12 Championship in late April and finishing fourth at the NCAA Championship on Monday.

Three Cowgirls are now set to compete at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open, as Hinson-Tolchard joins Maja Stark and Pernilla Lindberg in the tournament field. Lindberg also secured her spot as a co-medalist at the Bradenton, Fla. qualifying site on May 22.

Currently, Hinson-Tolchard is one of 15 amateurs to have qualified for the tournament.

In 2022, 22 golfers who played in a qualifier made the 36-hole cut at the U.S. Women’s Open, which was played at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. Birdie Kim (2005) is the last player to win the U.S. Women’s Open after advancing through qualifying.

The 2023 U.S. Women’s Open will be played July 6-9 at Pebble Beach Golf Links for the first time in its history. The event began in 1946 and is the longest-running tournament currently on the LPGA Tour. It is one of the LPGA’s five major championships.
