CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. –– The Women’s Golf Coaches Association has announced its new board of directors, effective June 1. Tulsa coach Annie Young has been appointed as the new Division I director for the WGCA.
Young just completed her fifth season with the Golden Hurricane, leading her squad to the school’s first NCAA Championship appearance in 15 seasons.
In her tenure, Young has led Tulsa to seven tournament titles, including six stroke-play and one matchplay crown. Her teams have now placed among the top-5 in 20 of 46 career stroke-play tournaments and among the top-3 finishers 17 times. This past season, Young’s team placed in the top-3 in six tournaments with victories in the fall campaign at the Barbara Nicklaus Cup and the Dale McNamara Invitational.
Her 2021 team won the American Athletic Conference championship as she was named the 2021 AAC Coach of the Year in just her third season as Tulsa’s coach. The conference title for Tulsa was the first league crown since the 2012 campaign when the Hurricane won the Conference USA Championship. In her first career tournament coaching at Tulsa, Young led the Hurricane squad to the tournament title at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic in the 2018-19 season.
Young came to Tulsa in June 2018 from Colorado State University, where she spent five years as the Rams head coach. The former Oklahoma State All-American also coached at OSU and Cal State Northridge.
One of the most decorated players in OSU women’s golf history, Young earned All-America honors in 2003 and 2005, earning first-team accolades in 2005, as well as being named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year that same season.
