City schedules brush pickup from recent storms

Sallisaw will undertake a citywide brush pickup beginning July 10 for brush created by recent storms. Only brush from the storms will be picked up, no other waste will be collected.

Sallisaw will undertake a citywide brush pickup beginning July 10 for brush created by recent storms. Only brush from the storms will be picked up, no other waste will be collected.

The service is for city residents only, and for residential properties only.

Residents should adhere to the following rules during the pickup:

• All brush must be placed curbside prior to the pickup date. Place all brush within six feet of the curb.

• Do not place brush next to mailboxes, fire hydrants, poles, water meters, gas meters, etc. Do not place brush in alleyways or drainage ditches.

• All brush must be cut into lengths no greater than eight feet long.

• All brush must originate from the property at the pickup location. Brush generated from other areas will not be collected.

• Do not mix trash with the brush. If trash is mixed in with the brush, the property owner will be responsible for disposal.

Residents who wish to dispose of brush on their own may haul it to the city landfill facility for no-charge disposal. Once at the landfill, residents must furnish proof of residence in the form of a utility bill and driver’s licenses showing their address within the Sallisaw city limits. Those needing a copy of their utility bill should contact customer service at city hall (918-775-6241).

The cutoff date for taking brush directly to the landfill is July 22. Brush from commercial tree services will be charged.

City equipment will only make one pass through each street. After the city makes one pass, if the resident has other brush to be collected, they may schedule it for a “Curbie” pickup. All Curbie pickups will be charged the set rate for pickup.
