The winning raffle ticket was drawn on June 22 at the Sallisaw Police Department by Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens for the Carnie Welch American Legion Post 27 raffle.
The winner, Jason Nunley of Checotah, was called but since he was unable to make it in person, arrangements were made for his mother, Susi Nunley, and sister, Sherry Porter, to meet with the Post members. The members met with Jason’s mother and sister at the location where he bought his ticket, which was Sparks Corner convenience store. Jason had originally planned only to make a donation but decided to buy a raffle ticket and still make a donation.
Post members showed them the way to Packard Point Ranch so they could choose what meat they wanted to get with the gift card. Jake and JT, who work at Packard Point Ranch, took time away from other duties to assist Susi and Sherry with their choices, and pack them in a box.
The Post would like tthem again in the future.
Carnie Welch American Legion Post 27 would like to thank all the people who bought tickets and made donations to help veterans. They also want to thank the businesses, which allowed them to set up at their locations to sell tickets. This shows what a community and people can do to help others.
