It had been eight years since the previous MillerTime Family Reunion, which was held in 2015. The three-day event commenced Saturday evening when out-of-towners from Texas, Colorado, California, Washington, Ohio and Arkansas gathered at Bricktown Brewery in Fort Smith. The crowd was met with a smattering of Sequoyah County cousins.
Sunday morning attendees toured Forth Smith National Historic site to learn more about the region’s colorful past. The crowd continued to grow as Sunday evening approached and Oklahoma cousins poured in for a barbecue picnic at Sallisaw Creek Park.
Reunion activities culminated with a rededication of Belle Miller Brewer’s repaired monument at Akins Cemetery on Monday morning. The MillerTime Reunion represents descendants of Winchester and Hettie’s six sons and one daughter.
A patriotic and entertaining program was held at Central High School on Monday afternoon with event organizer Jordan M. Ratliff, great-grandson of Ben and Mary Miller, emceeing.
Awards were given for the oldest living Miller, Jean Ales, daughter of Tom and Claudie Miller, who was present at Sunday’s event and who resides at Miller Ridge; Kara Nero, great-granddaughter of Frank and Martha Miller, for her superior chicken ‘n dumplings making ability; and 86-year-old Myrtle Sue Sutton, granddaughter of Will and Susie Miller, for attending all of the planned activities.
