Members learn calories count

By Billie Anthony

Monday we had 9 ladies in attendance. We had a loss of 2.7 pounds and a net gain of 4.9 pounds. Phyllis had the best weight loss for the week with 1.9 pounds. Great job, Phyllis! We had seven sign the Losers Lotto card and seven smiley faces taken off the Surprise Box. This week the Two Bit Bowl quarters went to Phyllis. Our Chapter Challenge this week is to journal every day for seven days. We celebrated with Phyllis for being the best weight loss for the quarter this past quarter. Way to go, Phyllis! Keep up the good work!

We had new photos taken with each member wearing a Queen for the Day crown. I handed out the new membership list for 2023. We have a program going now that when a new member joins TOPS, they will get three months free member dues. The first visit is free. Come check us out.

The program was from the latest TOPS magazine. Title of the article was Calories Count. The TOPS member who wrote the article was Ronne Tierney from Arizona. She lives near the Grand Canyon so she does a lot of hiking. Two things she learned was the endorphins from hiking the Grand Canyon are like none she had ever experienced. The second the she learned was that no matter how hard she hiked, if she didn’t watch what she ate, she was not going to lose weight. Like most of us that love food, she gained weight when she and her husband moved the California. She stayed active with cycling and weight-lifting, yet she still had a hard time losing weight. When they moved back to Arizona, she found a local TOPS CLUB and rejoined. After some time, she was within 10 pounds of her goal weight. She said TOPS and her fellow chapter members had been a great help in her weight-loss journey. The encouragement she received from fellow members helped her continue with her journey. Facing the scale is always a challenge for her, but she learned the best way to lose weight is with the support of her chapter and TOPS. Her best quote is “I have learned that exercise alone isn’t enough to drop the number on the scale.”

We closed our meeting with the TOPS Pledge. EVERYONE is invited to visit. The FIRST VISIT is FREE. It cost $49 a year to join TOPS Club INC. We meet at First Christian Church, 706 N Wheeler, Sallisaw, Monday at 10:30am-12pm. We begin weighing at 10:30am and the meeting starts at 11am and ends at 12. For more info, please call Billie at 918/413-1383. We look forward to meeting you.
