Fuller pleads guilty to shooting at police while holding an infant
A man with addresses in both Roland and Fort Smith, Ark. has pleaded guilty to to a seven-count indictment which includes counts of assault with intent to commit murder, child abuse, child neglect, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm, and one count of use, carry, brandish, and discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee announced that Elbert A. Fuller, Jr., 24, will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
Fuller was booked into the Sequoyah County Detention Center on Oct. 8, 2022, after he fired a pistol at a family member.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Roland Police Department, the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Department, the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane Jr. said Roland Police responded to a call when Fuller came out of a residence shooting at police while holding a small child in his arms. The Roland officer said he did not return gunfire due to Fuller holding the child. After Fuller ran out of ammunition, he reportedly threw his gun at the officer and the officer ran and tackled Fuller. Fuller then brandished a knife and attempted to stab the officer, according to former reports.
The crimes reportedly occurred in Sequoyah County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation (Indian Country), in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The Honorable Gerald L. Jackson, U.S. magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a pre-sentence investigation report.
