SALLISAW TOPS

Members learn about super foods

By Billie Anthony

Nine members weighed in today. Our new member, Brenda had the best weight loss today with a loss of 8.5 pounds. Great job, Brenda! Looking forwards to weeing what next week’s loss will be. We had five sign the Losers Lotto card and five smiley faces taken off the Surprise Box. This week the Two Bit Bowl quarters went to Billie, but she turtled(stayed the same) so the quarters will be in the bowl until the next week we draw a name. Our Chapter Challenge this week is to eat more veggies and also an extra challenge for the week is to exercise with a Frisbee fifteen minutes a day for five days.

We had two announcements from our Coordinator, Randy. The first announcement was telling us about TOPS First Global Event will be August 1-3, 2024, in Springfield, Mo. There will be motivational speeches, fellowship time with other members and upcoming events. The second announcement was correcting information about the quilt squares. It was said we were to have 9 x 9 inch squares to put our chapter picture for next year’s quilt to be raffled. Randy needs the finished product by October 1, 2023. It was announced by one of our members that there is going to be Tai Chi Exercise at Bethel Baptist Church beginning August 1 to October19 at 2-3pm on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Several of us plan on attending, hope to meet some of you there.

The program today was “The TOPS Ten Underappreciated Super Foods.” The following staple items can add variety to your menus, yet they are not always appreciated for the benefits they provide. Don’t forget to incorporate them into your meal plans. They list is: Beans, Celery, Garlic, Onion, Peas, Black Pepper, Bell Pepper, Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds and Canned Tomatoes.

Monday, July 31st, we will be celebrating Installation of Officers for 2024. We will weigh in at the church and then drive over Aromas for lunch and installation. Part of the program will be telling how Esther Manz started TOPS CLUB seventy five years ago.

We closed our meeting with the TOPS Pledge.

EVERYONE is invited to visit. The FIRST VISIT is FREE. It cost $49 a year to join TOPS Club INC. We meet at First Christian Church, 706 N Wheeler, Sallisaw, Monday at 10:30am-12pm. We begin weighing at 10:30am and the meeting starts at 11am and ends at 12. For more info, please call Billie at 918/413-1383. We look forward to meeting you.
