Sallisaw first-year football coach Brandon Tyler is no longer the newby on campus. He got knocked out of that title by a new scoreboard.
Perry F. Lattimore Stadium had its new scoreboard put up Wednesday afternoon, and it will be ready to go for the home and season opener at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 against Stigler.
“It’s real exciting,” Tyler said. “It’s state of the art, having a jumbotron and the replay system. It’s pretty big time for our program. I know the kids and the community are excited for it. We’re looking forward to it.”
In fact, the new scoreboard could have actually been used Wednesday afternoon, or certainly this week.
“It’s about ready now,” said Tyler, who gave a presentation at the 2023 Oklahoma Coaches Association’s Coaches Clinic on Wednesday afternoon at the Marriott Southern Hills Motel in Tulsa. “They were working on the resolution (Wednesday afternoon). Some of the coaches said they had something like “SportsCenter” or something was playing on it. They got it turned on.”
In fact, if the new Sallisaw football coach has his way, he is hoping the new state-of-the-art scoreboard can be used for coaching in practices.
“I was telling our coaches (Wednesday),” Tyler said. “Last year, Tulsa Union put one up. I’ll have to talk to their coaches, but they put like their scout-team cards up on the jumbotron for their scout team to look at it, without having to draw a diagram and have it on a scout book. They were able to put it up on the jumbotron so they could see that. That’s a great feature. If we’re able to get it to work, it will be a great asset for that. It would be pretty neat to be able to get to do that.”
