Where is Ricky Don Henning?

Sallisaw man reported as missing

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

Authorities are actively searching for a Sallisaw man who was reported as missing by family members on Sunday, July 23.

Authorities are actively searching for a Sallisaw man who was reported as missing by family members on Sunday, July 23.

Ricky Don Henning, 58, was reportedly last heard from on July 11, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s investigators BR Rutherford and Dwayne Frizzell, who are working the case.

Rutherford said deputies were dispatched to 113113 S. 4610 Road in Sallisaw on July 23 to take a report regarding a missing person. There, they met with Henning’s daughter, Misty Bateman, and Chris Hopkins. Bateman said she last spoke to her father on Tuesday, July 11, at the bank.

Bateman told authorities she tried to call her father again on Monday, July 17, and has been trying to call him ever since she received a call from a cousin on Sunday. Bateman said her cousin told her Henning’s next door neighbor said they hadn’t seen or heard from Henning in about a week.

Henning’s daughter said she was also told that her father’s dog was still at the residence but Henning was not home.

“Bateman stated that she came to her dad’s house to check and see if he was there, and realized that the dog was not there either,” Rutherford reported. “Bateman stated that she went and spoke with a neighbor and she informed her that a friend of Ricky’s had the dog.”

Bateman told investigators that when she went inside the house it was “nasty” and she also found items belonging to other individuals.

Frizzell reported deputies observed that Henning’s truck, a 2007 Chevrolet, was not parked in the yard anywhere.

“Bateman stated that the truck was currently missing as well,” Frizzell said. “She said all of Ricky’s clothes are still in the house and that he never leaves his dog anywhere. She said if he was going somewhere, he would have taken the dog.”

“We’re hoping to find our brother; we need to know where Ricky is because something is very wrong,” Katie Henning of South Dakota said, regarding her brother-in-law. Katie is married to Ricky’s brother, Bobby Henning.

“He’d never abandon or leave his dog, Ruby Rue, with someone else. He took that dog everywhere with him and the dog was very protective of him,” she said.

It is unknown what Henning was wearing at the time of his disappearance but he is described as 5’10” and 200 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.

“Please help us find our brother. We love him and fear the worst,” Katie Henning said.

“This is an open and active missing persons investigation. The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department is working closely with several agencies to attempt to locate Henning’s whereabouts,” Rutherford said.

If anyone comes into contact with Henning, knows his whereabouts or has information regarding him, they are asked to contact the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department at 918-775-9155.
