TULSA — For the second straight year and three of the last four, the Oral Roberts University baseball team has earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, as announced by the organization.
This annual award, which began in 2016, honors high school and college teams coached by current ABCA members that posted a grade-point average greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2022-23 academic year. More than 300 high school programs and more than 450 collegiate programs were recognized with this year’s award.
In the classroom, the Golden Eagles compiled a 3.42 GPA, which marked the highest in program history. On the field, ORU claimed its 21st Summit League Championship title, advanced to the College World Series for the first time since 1978 and set a program record (DI-era) for wins with 52. The Golden Eagles were one of only three teams from the Summit League to earn the award.
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/ Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional and National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
