The Vian Police Department will be increasing its back-to-school traffic enforcement to start preparing for the upcoming school year.

“In an attempt to be proactive and give the students a safer community, we will be stepping up our awareness initiatives to remind residents, semis and nonresidents on the highways and side streets,” Vian Police Chief Mark Harkins said.
“We will soon have students going back to school and walking to and from. We ask that everyone be mindful of this and look out for them,” he said.
Harkins said the department will be focusing on high foot traffic areas such as the cross walks on Highway 82 and every city street, especially in higher populated neighborhoods.
“Please remember when school starts, inside the school zones, the speed limits and cell phone restrictions,” he said. “Let’s all do our part to keep these students safe and have a great upcoming school year.”
Harkins said he will send out periodic reminders as we get closer to the start of the school year.
