Back-to-School Bash provides much-needed services, items
Thanks to the efforts of generous community benefactors, some Sequoyah County students and their families are feeling relief this year thanks to the third annual Back-to-School Bash, which took place Sunday at the Sallisaw Middle School gymnasium.

The event provides an opportunity for students to obtain back-to-school items and services, including haircuts and manicures, which are all free thanks to local community members.
On-site stylists from Selah Suites provided haircuts, and cheerleaders provided manicures for students. While grateful parents chatted, students played on the bounce houses, enjoyed face painting and munched on popcorn, some wearing balloon hats.
One third-grader told Your TIMES that the event felt like “a fun carnival.” Indeed, the event proved a great way for students to celebrate the new school year.
This year, all students received a bag of groceries provided by the Cherokee Nation. One family told Your TIMES that “with the rising cost of living, it means a lot to us … and to start our kids’ year off right.” The event is completely community- sponsored, with all items and services donated by local businesses, churches and individuals.
Organizers are looking forward to the next Back-to-School Bash. More information will be provided prior to the 2024 event. Donors and corporate sponsors are always welcome, and encouraged to contact Trina Ramirez at 909-545-9720 or BackToSchoolBash@gmail.com.
