By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

INDIANOLA — The 2023 fast-pitch softball season did not start well for the Gans Lady Grizzlies as they lost both of their games in last weekend’s Indianola Tournament, losing 13-1 to host Indianola and falling 10-1 to Quinton.

INDIANOLA — The 2023 fast-pitch softball season did not start well for the Gans Lady Grizzlies as they lost both of their games in last weekend’s Indianola Tournament, losing 13-1 to host Indianola and falling 10-1 to Quinton.

Brianna Burris

In the loss to Indianola, the Lady Grizzlies (0-2) broke the scoreless tie on an RBI double by Brianna Burris, scoring K’Cee Osbourn, for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

However, from there, it was all Indianola as the host team scored eight runs in the opening inning and five more runs in the second for a 13-1 lead after two innings, with the game ending by run rule after Gans batted in the third inning.

In defeat, Burris hit an RBI double and Gabbie Price doubled for the only hits for Gans.

Burris (0-1) took the loss, lasting just two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout. Reina Gaona went the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.

In the loss to Quinton, the Lady Savages broke a 1-all first-inning tie with three runs in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

After Quinton scored in its half of the first inning, the Lady Grizzlies tied the game at 1 in their half of the frame on a Quinton error, scoring Osbourn to knot the game at 1.

In defeat, Mackenzie Kimble had the lone hit for Gans.

Gaona (0-1) took the loss, going the first two innings with a strikeout. Burris went the final two innings with a strikeout.
