Lady Black Diamonds drop 3rd straight road district game, fall to Poteau

POTEAU — The Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds suffered their third straight road district loss to begin the season as they lost 12-0 to the Poteau Lady Pirates on Monday afternoon.

POTEAU — The Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds suffered their third straight road district loss to begin the season as they lost 12-0 to the Poteau Lady Pirates on Monday afternoon.

The Poteau pitching combo of Annika Dill and Emma Hackler held the Lady Black Diamonds (1-5 overall, 0-3 in district play) to two hits, a single each for Delaney Compton and Channing Wilson.

The Lady Pirates put away the game early with a 10-run first inning.

Compton took the loss. Preslee Jackson went the final 3.2 innings with a strikeout.

MULDROW 9, KEOTA 3

Monday afternoon in Muldrow, the Lady Bulldogs (3-4) snapped their four-game losing streak with the home victory.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Amaya Duran, Amarie Duran and Jaydin Dean, along with a wild pitch. Another wild pitch in the second inning allowed Ashley Price to come in from third base for a 5-0 advantage.

After the Lady Lions scored their first run in the fourth inning, Dean’s two-run triple in the fifth inning made it 7-1 in Muldrow’s favor. Dean scored on a wild pitch for an 8-1 advantage.

The Durans teamed up once more in the sixth inning as each Amaya and Amarie Duran hit RBI singles for a 9-1 lead for the Lady Bulldogs.

For the game, Amaya Duran was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, Amarie Duran was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Dean was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored and Price doubled and scored once for Muldrow.

Kaydence Young (1-0) got her first win of the season, striking out eight batters.

VIAN 15, HEAVENER 4

VIAN 10, CAMERON 2

Monday afternoon in Heavener, the Lady Wolverines (5-3) got a pair of road wins.

In the win over the host Lady Wolves, the Lady Wolverines scored once in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.

After Heavener cut its deficit to 4-2 after two innings, Vian put away the game with a six-run third inning for a 10-2 lead. A five-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Maisie Wells was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, Hanna Mattingly was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Halli Russell was 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, Kala Gibbins was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Rayleigh Terrill was 2-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored and Skyelar Locust tripled and scored three runs for Vian.

Gibbins (3-2) got the win, striking out three batters in six innings.

In the victory over the Lady Yellowjackets, the Lady Wolverines had to rally for the come-from-behind win. Down 2-1 in the second inning, Vian scored three runs in the second inning, twice in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Wells was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Terrill was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, LaKaila Drew was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Akeelah Truett was 2-for-3 with a double and Rebel Simon was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for Vian.

Drew (1-1) got her first win of the season in relief as she went the final 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. Mattingly started, went the first 1.2 innings with four Ks.

MONDAY GAMES GET CANCELED

Two match-ups on Monday were canceled — Webbers Falls at Central and Gans at Watts.

Neither game has been rescheduled as of press time. The Webbers Falls-Central cancelation marked the second time those two teams got canceled as their scheduled season-opener Aug. 7 in Webbers Falls was rained out.
