Millard and Evelynn McCormack were honored on their 70th wedding anniversary with a reception hosted by the Abundant Life Pentecostal Church in Sallisaw on July 29. There were about 75 people in attendance at the reception where chips and dip, fruit trays, chicken salad, and ham and cheese sandwiches were served, followed by punch and a beautifully decorated cake.

The couple were actually married on July 31, 1953, in Tulsa where Millard was employed as a parking lot attendant for Beebe Parking Lots. They made their home in Tulsa until 1966 when they bought their first service station business and moved to Broken Arrow. In 1970, they moved to Wagoner on Fort Gibson Lake and purchased a service station business in Chouteau. While there, the opportunity came up to purchase a Sears Catalog franchise in Sallisaw. They moved to Sallisaw in 1979 where they operated the Sears store until 1988. Millard then went to work at the Walmart Tire and Lube center where he retired in 1995. Millard and Evelynn have made their home in Sallisaw for the last 44 years.

The couple has two children, a son, Mark McCormack and wife Linda of Muldrow and a daughter, Susan Chandler and husband David of Sallisaw. They currently have five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. The family just continues to grow and they say they are so blessed to have “Nanie and Papa” still with them.
