With seven returning starters coming back for second-year coach Luke Folkerts, the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs are seeking to finish above the .500 mark in 2023 after ending the fall 2022 season at 14-15.
Three of the seven returners are seniors — shortstop Allison Goodwin (.385 average in fall 2022), first baseman/outfielder Kiki Wight (.420) and outfielder/ catcher Ashley Price (.206).
The lone junior returning starter is outfielder Danica Tune (.303), while the other three returning starters are sophomores — infielder/pitcher Amaya Duran (.268 average last fall), infielder Kaydence Young (.206) and pitcher/second baseman Jaydin Dean (.206).
Dean, who was 10-11 last season with four saves in the circle with a 4.05 earned-run average and pitched 131.1 innings, was a member of the All-District 4A-6 Team, while Goodwin and Wight were second-team members.
Rounding out the roster are senior pitcher/outfielder Kaira Qualls, junior first baseman Amaraya Keenan, junior outfielder Eve Keenan, junior second baseman/outfielder Nee’Lah Pollard, freshman catcher Amarie Duran, freshman first baseman Annalyse Sutton and freshman outfielders Rylie Wilson and Heidi McGuire.
“With so many returning starters, this team has a chance to have a very competitive season,” Folkerts said. “Our schedule is full of great teams, and our district (4A-6) has many great teams — and great players that are well coached. If we can establish ourselves as a great offensive team from top to bottom in our line-up, and we are solid on defense, we have a chance to win a lot of games. We return experience everywhere, including in the circle. Kiki Wight, Allison Goodwin and Jaydin Dean are all returning all-district players.”
