Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds look to continue steadily improving
After just winning three games a few fall seasons ago, the Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds went 12-17 last fall under coach Hillary Gehrke, but the team ended the season by going 5-2 over their final seven games of the 2022 season — which saw the ladies in black and gold reach the Class 4A Regional Tournament at Bristow.

The Lady Black Diamonds return four starters from a season ago — catcher Emma Lesley (who is Sallisaw’s lone senior on the team), junior shortstop Madison Green, junior first baseman Makenna Bormann and sophomore centerfielder Sydney Weedon.
Three of the other players in the starting line-up likely will be freshmen — third baseman Channing Wilson, second baseman Jaycee Cox and utility player Preslee Jackson.
Sophomore Delaney Compton also should see a lot of time in the starting line-up.
Rounding out the roster are Avery Haywood, Kambri Taylor, Jadlyn Dry and Dominique Zielinski.
Two big things the Lady Black Diamonds will have to overcome as the season progress are youth and lack of depth.
