The Golden Eagles (0-1-1) struck first and quick. Mid-fielder Samantha Guzman headed in a perfect cross from forward Samantha See at the four-minute mark in the match.
The Sooners (2-0) responded promptly, netting two goals in the next 15 minutes. Leonie Weber and Emma Hawkins, OU’s leading goal scorer from last year, were responsible for sparking the run with their two scores.
At the 27-minute mark, Kennedy Langebartels found Haley Nichols on a breakaway run where Nichols was able to win a one-on-one with the OU keeper. The senior-freshman connection would conclude the scoring for both teams in the first half.
Hadley Murrell was able to give the Sooners an edge at the 57-minute mark that put OU up one. 14 minutes later, Hawkins struck again for her second goal of the evening as the Sooners maintained a 4-2 lead for the remainder of the game.
