Lady Black Diamonds lose home district game to Checotah

The Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds remained winless in district play after losing 9-5 to the Checotah Lady Wildcats on Tuesday night at home.

The Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds remained winless in district play after losing 9-5 to the Checotah Lady Wildcats on Tuesday night at home.

The Lady ‘Cats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning before the Lady Black Diamonds (1-9 overall, 0-7 in district play) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame on Delaney Compton’s tworun double, scoring Sydney Weedon and Madison Green.

After Checotah scored in the top of the fourth inning, Sallisaw made it 5-3 in the bottom of the inning on an error, allowing Channing Wilson to score.

After the Lady Wildcats scored twice in the fifth inning to make it 7-3, the Lady Black Diamonds once more cut their deficit to two runs as Compton’s RBI single and Emma Lessley’s RBI groundout made it 7-5. However, that was as close as Sallisaw got as Checotah scored two insurance runs in the seventh inning.

In defeat, Wilson was 3-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, Weedon was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Compton was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in and Jaycie Cox doubled for Sallisaw.

Preslee Jackson took the loss, going the first five innings with two strikeouts. Compton went the final two innings.

ROLAND 16, GORE 6

Tuesday night in Roland, the Lady Rangers (6-5) broke a 6-all tie with a 10run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Sara Qualls was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Scarlett Qualls was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored, KyLeigh Knapp doubled with an RBI and Lilly Cole tripled with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Knapp (2-0) got the win with two strikeouts for the Lady Rangers, whose Wednesday home game with Heavener was canceled. The original Heavener-Roland game was to have been played Aug. 8, but it was canceled due to rain. Roland coach Mason Wiggins said the game has not been rescheduled as of press time, but he is trying to find an open date for the game to take place.

In defeat, Natalie Casteel was 2-for-2, Kendra Huckbay was 2-for-2 with a run scored and River Shoemake doubled with an RBI for the Lady Pirates (2-10). Cheyenne Davidson took the loss.

VIAN 5, HEAVENER 1

Tuesday afternoon in Vian, the Lady Wolverines (9-3) ran their winning streak to seven games with the home victory, thanks to jumping out to a 4-0 lead after an inning.

For the game, Maisie Wells was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Hanna Mattingly doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Kala Gibbins doubled with a run scored for Vian.

Gibbins (7-2) got the win, striking out six batters in seven innings.

POCOLA 14, MULDROW 1

Tuesday night in Muldrow, the Pocola pitching trio of Allyssa Parker, Kyleigh Combs and Alli Loman combined to four-hit the Lady Bulldogs (5-6).

In defeat, Amarie Duran was 2-for-3 and scored once, Kaydence Young singled and Amaya Duran doubled for Muldrow.

Amaya Duran (0-1) suffered the loss, going the first four innings. Young went the final three innings with a strikeout.

WILBURTON 9, CENTRAL 3

Tuesday afternoon in Wilburton, the loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 0-10.

There was no more information reported on the game by press time.

MCCURTAIN 14, GANS 0

Tuesday afternoon in McCurtain, the Lady Bulldogs put away the game early with a 13-run first inning.

The Lady Grizzlies (1-6) only could muster a single apiece by Gabbie Price and Aaliyah Taylor.

Reina Gaona (0-3) took the loss, lasting just two-thirds of an inning. Brianna Burris went the final 1.1 innings.
