The Central Lady Tigers finally got over the hump with their first two wins of the season as they swept Canadian on Thursday afternoon at home.

It had to be frustrating as some of the losses were gut-wrenchers — especially having a lead against highly-ranked Pocola before falling to the Lady Indians.

The Vian Lady Wolverines began last week by running their winning streak to seven games before losing twice on Thursday in the Lincoln Christian Tournament in Verdigris. They started a new winning streak with Friday’s tournament win over the Kansas Lady Comets.

WEEK 3 INDIVIDUAL HITTING HIGHLIGHTS

• Sallisaw’s Sydney Weedon hit .600 last week, going 6-for-10 with a double, a solo home run, four runs scored and an RBI.

• Vian’s Kala Gibbins had a strong Lincoln Christian Tournament for the Lady Wolverines, going 5-for-7, which included a 3-for-3 contest against Kansas which included a double, a triple, three runs batted in and two runs scored.

• Central’s duo of Avery Warner and Kallie Henning helped the Lady Tigers notch their first two wins of the season. In Thursday’s doubleheader sweep of Canadian, Warner went 5-for-10 with three RBIs and five runs scored, while Henning enjoyed a 4-for-7 twinbill with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.

WEEK 3 INDIVIDUAL PITCHING HIGHLIGHTS

• Central’s Ayrlind Jiles had 19 strike outs in Thursdays’ sweep of Canadian, fanning eight batters in the opener and 11 in the nightcap.

• Vian’s Kala Gibbins struck out 16 batters, including six of those in the win over Heavener on Aug. 22.

• Roland’s Emily Daws fanned 10 batters, with two five-K outings, one in Friday night’s loss to rival Muldrow and five in a home loss to Spiro on Aug. 21.

• Muldrow’s Jaydin Dean had 10 strikeouts, including seven in Friday night’s win over archrival Roland.
