Sallisaw loses to Westville; Muldrow avenges football loss to Roland on softball diamond

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds suffered an 8-4 road loss Thursday to the Westville Lady Yellowjackets, then had their home game Monday afternoon against Stilwell canceled.

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds suffered an 8-4 road loss Thursday to the Westville Lady Yellowjackets, then had their home game Monday afternoon against Stilwell canceled.

In the loss to Westville, the Lady ‘Jackets scored twice in the first inning and single runs in the third and fourth innings for a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Diamonds (1-10) got their first run in the fifth inning on Delaney Compton’s sacrifice fly, scoring Preslee Jackson, to cut the Sallisaw deficit to 4-1.

However, that was as close as the Lady Diamonds got as Westville scored four runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-1 lead.

Sallisaw’s final three runs scored in the seventh inning on Sydney Weedon’s solo home run, Compton’s RBI double and Jaycie Cox’s RBI single.

In defeat, Weedon went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo homer, a run scored and a run batted in, Compton was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Cox was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Makenna Bormann was 2-for-4 for Sallisaw.

Jackson took the loss, getting a strikeout in 4.1 innings. Compton went the final 1.2 innings with four Ks.

Sallisaw did not play its Tuesday’s three-way at Vian with Okmulgee.

MULDROW 6, ROLAND 2

Friday night in Muldrow, just one night after the Roland Rangers beat the Muldrow Bulldogs in the annual “Battle of 64” in the annual football battle at Roland’s Ranger Stadium, the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs avenged that loss by way of a home win over the Lady Rangers.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-7) broke the scoreless deadlock on Jaydin Dean’s one-out, RBI single in the second inning, scoring Danica Tune, for a 1-0 lead. Tune’s two-out, two-run double in the third inning increased Muldrow’s advantage to 3-0 after three innings. Amaya Duran’s RBI single in the fourth inning made it 4-0.

The Lady Rangers (6-7) cut the lead in half at 4-2 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Emily Daws and an RBI triple by Addyson Clark, but Roland got no closer.

The Lady Bulldogs scored twice run the fifth inning on Tune’s RBI double and Amarie Duran’s RBI groundout for a 6-2 lead.

For the game, Tune was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Dean was 3-for-4 with a triple, a run score and an RBI, Kaydence Young doubled and scored once and Amarie Duran doubled with an RBI for Muldrow. Dean (5-5) got the win, striking out seven batters in seven innings.

In defeat, Daws was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Roland. Daws (4-6) took the loss, despite fanning six batters in six innings.

CENTRAL 11, CANADIAN 1 CENTRAL 12, CANADIAN 4

Thursday at Central High School, the Lady Tigers (211) got their first wins of the season as they got the sweep.

In the opener, Ayrland Jiles (2-11) threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Jiles got all the run support needed after her team fell behind 1-0 the opening inning as Central scored four runs in each of the first two innings, a single run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Avery Warner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Kallie Henning was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, Brianna Taylor was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Alyvia Warner was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

In the nightcap, after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Lady Tigers scored six runs in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning, a single run in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning.

For the game, Avery Warner was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, Henning was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Cambree Bair was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Allie Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Jiles got the win, this time fanning 11 batters and throwing a four-hitter.

POTEAU 11, MULDROW 0

Monday afternoon in Muldrow, the Poteau pitching combination of Annika Dill and Emma Hackler combined on a five-hitter.

The Lady Pirates scored once in the first and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead, then put the game into run-rule status with a five-run fifth inning and a four-run sixth inning.

In defeat, Kaydence Young was 2-for-3, while Amarie Duran doubled for the Lady Bulldogs (1-2 in district play). Jaydin Dean took the loss, despite fanning three batters in 4.1 innings. Duran pitched the final 1.2 innings.

ARKOMA 4, GANS 2

Monday afternoon in Arkoma, the Lady Mustangs scored twice in the first inning and single runs in the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Grizzlies (1-8) cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning on a one-out, two-RBI single by Melania Paniagua, but Gans did not get any closer.

In defeat, Brianna Burris doubled, while Paniagua hit a two-run single for all the offense for Gans. Burris (1-5) took the loss, despite recording five strikeouts in four innings.

Gore was slated to be in Monday’s action to make it a three-way, but Gore coach Michael Randolph said the Lady Pirates were slated to play in a road three-way Tuesday at Arkoma along with Watts.

HENRYETTA 12, ROLAND 3

Monday in Roland, the Lady Black Knights put away the game with single runs in the first and third innings, two runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning for an 8-0 lead.

The Lady Rangers scored all three runs in their half of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Aubriana Gragg, a passed ball and an RBI single by Emily Daws to cut Roland’s deficit to 8-3 after five innings, but they got no closer.

In defeat, Gragg, Daws and Addyson Clark each singled for Roland’s three hits. KyLeigh Knapp (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season, despite striking out six batters in seven innings.

WISTER 6, CENTRAL 0

Friday afternoon at Central High School, the Lady Tigers (2-11) were two-hit by Wister’s pitcher as a single apiece by Jiles and Avery Warner was all Central could muster. Jiles took the loss.

KEYS (PARK HILL) 13, GORE 1

Friday afternoon in Gore, the Lady Cougars scored twice in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and twice in the third inning for an 8-0 lead.

The Lady Pirates (2-11) scored their lone run in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Emily Daily, scoring Natalie Casteel.

Keys (Park Hill) put the game into run-rule status with a five-run sixth inning. Pitcher Maddie Hamby no-hit Gore.

Cheyenne Davidson took the loss, going the first 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Kendra Huckbay got the final two outs, one of which was by strikeout.

INDIANOLA 8, GANS 0

Thursday in Gans, the Lady Grizzlies only could muster a single by Brianna Burris. Burris (1-4) took the loss, despite striking out seven batters in six innings.

WARNER 5, WEBBERS FALLS 1

Thursday in Warner, the Lady Warriors dropped to 1-6. No further information was available at press time.

 

Editor’s Note: Monday’s Vian home game against Wagoner was canceled because the Lady Bulldogs had to make up a district game. Vian coach John Mays said that it is highly unlikely the game will be rescheduled, and he said Tuesday’s home action was a district home doubleheader against Okmulgee.
