School board addresses key administrative matters for new school year

The board started by approving a list of consent agenda items, including the minutes of the July 10 meeting, resignations from Danny Long, Rhianna Maxfield and Keith Qualls, a certified and non-certified substitute teacher list, as well as several financial encumbrances and payroll encumbrances for the school year.
During the Superintendent’s Report, Clifta Fugett delved into the annual CCOSA/OSSBA Convention, discussed the August calendar, and provided an overview of the State Aid Allocations and stimulus funds. Her comprehensive report highlighted the district’s commitment to staying informed and leveraging available resources for the betterment of the educational environment.
The proposed changes to the elementary, middle and high school student handbooks for the 2023-24 school year were deliberated. With unanimous agreement, the board approved the changes, thereby cementing the guidelines for the upcoming academic year.
The board made important decisions regarding the employment of both certified adjunct teachers and non-certified positions for the school year, all of temporary contracts. Certified appointments included: Blaed Walters as an adjunct band assistant; Samantha Nichols as an adjunct high school history teacher; Carla Farley as an adjunct seventh and eighth grade math teacher; Caleb Armer as an adjunct physical ed/health teacher; John Harvell as an adjunct high school physics teacher; and Carrie Treat as an adjunct Kindergarten teacher. Non-certified appointments were awarded to Lacy Cathey and Brookelyn Shepard, as teacher assistants.
Brenda French, Danny Long, Jeremy McAllister and Tim Parrish were all approved as substitute bus drivers, according to meeting minutes.
Several other resolutions were passed with unanimous consent. These included the approval of contracts, sanctioning of various booster clubs, renewal of contracts with external service providers, and the assignment of mentor teachers who had completed requisite hours with their residency year teachers.
