Cowgirl soccer duo named Big 12’s best

IRVING, Texas — The Oklahoma State Cowgirls soccer team claimed its first weekly award winners for 2023 as Hannah Chance was named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Alex Morris the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in Week 2.

The duo led the Cowgirls to a pair of wins last week as OSU defeated Florida Atlantic 3-0 before an 8-0 drubbing of Arkansas-Little Rock to improve to 3-1-0 on the season.

Chance, a junior forward, was an offensive force as she scored five goals on the week, needing just eight shots to do so.

A Broken Arrow native, Chance tallied a pair of goals against FAU, then put her name in the record books in Sunday’s contest against UALR.

Chance recorded a hat trick with three goals against the Trojans as she became the 13th different Cowgirl in program history and first since 2019 to net three goals in a game.

The hat trick marked the 18th time in the 28-year history of OSU soccer that a Cowgirl has scored three or more goals in a game.

With her big week, Chance now ranks second in the NCAA this season with six goals.

Morris played a key role on both ends of the field as the senior helped OSU post a pair of shutouts and limit its opponents to just 13 shots.

Also key in the attack, the Frisco, Texas, native posted three assists, including two against UALR.

Morris now has four assists on the season, which already marks a career high, and she ranks second in the Big 12 and fourth nationally in that statistic.
