Vian Lady Wolverines sweep Okmulgee; Central rallies for win

The Vian Lady Wolverines got a home sweep over the Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs by identical scores of 10-0 Tuesday afternoon at Armstrong Park.

The Vian Lady Wolverines got a home sweep over the Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs by identical scores of 10-0 Tuesday afternoon at Armstrong Park.

In the opener, Vian ace Kala Gibbins (10-4) struck out 10 batters in five innings and threw a three-hitter.

The Lady Wolverines (12-5) broke a scoreless tie with a seven-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Gibbins was 2-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored, Hanna Mattingly was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Halli Russell was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Akeelah Truett doubled with two runs scored and an RBI, LaKaila Drew doubled and scored once and Skyelar Locust doubled and scored twice for Vian.

In the nightcap, Gibbins threw a no-hitter with five Ks in four innings.

Being the visiting team, the Lady Wolverines got to bat first, and wasted no time denting the scoreboard as they scored four runs in each of the first two innings, then added two more runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Mattingly was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI, Drew was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Maisie Wells doubled with an RBI and a run scored.

CENTRAL 6, WILBURTON 5

Tuesday afternoon at Central High School, the Lady Tigers (311) rallied for the come-from-behind win with a two-run sixth inning as Avery Warner hit a two-out, two-run double for the game-winning hit.

For the contest, Avery Warner was 2-for-2 with a tworun double and a run scored, Cambree Bair singled with an RBI and Brianna Taylor and Alyvia Warner each singled.

Ayrland Jiles (3-11) got the win, fanning four batters in seven innings.

GORE 14, WATTS 0

ARKOMA 10, GORE 9

Tuesday in Arkoma, the Lady Pirates (3-12) split their two games in the three-way.

In the win over Watts, the Lady Pirates scored all 14 runs in the first inning to put the game into run-rule status. The game ended in three innings.

Gore only had three hits, a single by Natalie Casteel, a double by River Shoemake and a triple by Cadi Shoemake.

In the loss to Arkoma, the Lady Mustangs broke a 9-all tie with a walk-off win in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Kynley Webb was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Kennedy Williams was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Casteel doubled with an RBI.

STIGLER 9, MULDROW 1

Tuesday afternoon in Stigler, the Lady Panthers broke a scoreless tie with a six-run second inning and a three-run third inning for a 9-0 lead.

The lone run for the Lady Bulldogs (6-8 overall, 1-3 in district play) scored in the sixth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Kaira Qualls.

In defeat, Danica Tune was 2-for-4 with a double, Amaya Duran was 2-for-4 and Ashley Price doubled and scored the lone run for Muldrow.

Kaydence Young (1-1) suffered her first loss of the season, going the first two innings. Duran went the final four innings.

SPIRO 8, ROLAND 0

Tuesday afternoon in Spiro, Spiro pitcher Kami Autrey threw a two-hitter and struck out eight batters.

The Lady Bulldogs scored twice in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead, then doubled their advantage to 8-0 with a four-run fifth inning.

In defeat, all the Lady Rangers (6-8) could muster offensively was a single apiece by Aubriana Gragg and Jaydance Bean.

KyLeigh Knapp (2-2) took the loss, despite fanning two batters in six innings.

 

Editor’s Note: Gans’ road game Tuesday against Cave Springs was canceled due to the Lady Hornets not having enough players.
