By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

STIGLER — The Gore Lady Pirates finished fourth, the Webbers Falls Lady Warriors tied for fifth and the Gans Lady Grizzlies were seventh in the 2023 Riverside Conference Softball Tournament, which took place Thursday and Friday.

STIGLER — The Gore Lady Pirates finished fourth, the Webbers Falls Lady Warriors tied for fifth and the Gans Lady Grizzlies were seventh in the 2023 Riverside Conference Softball Tournament, which took place Thursday and Friday.

Gore lost the loser’s-bracket semifinal 4-0 to McCurtain after blanking Arkoma 11-0 in the loser’s bracket quarterfinals.

In Thursday’s opening-round game, the Lady Pirates beat the Lady Warriors 7-4, then lost in the winner’s bracket semifinal 10-1 to the Porum Lady Panthers.

The Gans Lady Grizzlies lost both games in the two-day tournament on Thursday to be eliminated. The Lady Grizzlies lost 13-0 to the Keota Lady Lions, then fell 5-3 to the Arkoma Lady Mustangs.

The Lady Warriors also went two and out as they lost 8-0 to McCurtain in Thursday’s loser’s-bracket quarterfinals.

In Gore’s loss to McCurtain, the Lady Pirates (5-14) were two-hit by McCurtain’s pitcher. All Gore could muster was a single apiece by Sophie O’Connor and Kendra Huckbay.

Cheyenne Davidson took the loss, despite fanning four batters in three innings.

In Gore’s victory over Arkoma, Davidson threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Gore scored in each of the four innings, leading 3-0 after an inning, 5-0 at the end of two innings, 9-0 after three innings and 11-0 at the end of four innings — which put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Emily Daily was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored, Paige Curran was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs batted in and River Shoemake doubled and scored twice.

In Gore’s win over Webbers Falls, after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Lady Pirates scored five runs in their half of the inning for a 5-1 lead and never lost their advantage.

For the game, Kynley Webb was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, O’Connor doubled with an RBI and Kennedy Williams doubled for Gore.

In defeat, Bridgette Baer was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Gracie Sturgell was 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Lady Warriors (1-10).

In Gore’s loss to Porum, Lady Panthers’ pitcher Leia Johnson threw a five-hitter with eight strikeouts.

After the Lady Pirates scored first in the opening inning on Curran’s RBI double scoring Cadi Shoemake for a 1-0 lead, the Lady Panthers responded with an eight-run first inning, then a pair of single runs in the third and fourth innings put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Curran hit an RBI double, Daily doubled and Natalie Casteel and Huckbay each singled for Gore.

Davidson took the loss, despite fanning five batters in three innings.

In Gans’ loss to Keota, Keota pitcher Jaycee Byrd threw a three-inning perfect game with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Lions scored 12 of their 13 runs in the opening inning to put away the game early.

Brianna Burris (1-7) took the loss, getting a strikeout in two innings of work.

In Gans’ loss to Arkoma, the Lady Grizzlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Burris, who then later scored on an Arkoma error.

However, the Lady Mustangs scored once in the second inning and four runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead after three innings.

Gans scored its final run in the fourth inning as Destiny Montgomery scored on a passed ball to cut Arkoma lead to 5-3, but the Lady Grizzlies got no closer.

In defeat, Burris singled with an RBI, while Montgomery, Reina Gaona, K’Cee Osburn, Makinzie Kimble and Stevie Pratt all singled for Gans.

Burris took the loss, despite getting five strikeouts in three innings.

In Webbers Falls’ loss to McCurtain, the Lady Warriors were no-hit. Maddie Raskey took the loss.
