Arkansas cross country teams sweep titles at OSU Cowboy Preview

Golden Hurricane, Cowboys, Sooners finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th in men’s race; Cowgirls 2nd, TU 4th, OU 5th in women’s race

STILLWATER — Both University of Arkansas cross country teams swept the team titles at Friday morning’s Oklahoma State University Cowboys Preview, which took place at Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course.

In the men’s 5k race, Arkansas scored 26 points, with Tulsa second (34), host OSU third (72) and Oklahoma fourth (105).

Producing a 1-2 finish by Ben Shearer and Reuben Reina over a 5,000-meters distance, Arkansas delivered a team victory.

Shearer covered the course in 14:55.1 with Reina runnerup in 15:03.1. Myles Richter placed fifth in 15:14.3 as the third Razorback finisher.

Arkansas produced its 26 points off a 1-2-5-8-10 finish.

Elias Schreml, who won his race a year ago, was fourth among the Razorbacks in placing eighth overall with a time of 15:18.9. Tommy Romanow completed Arkansas’ team score, placing 10th in 15:25.5.

Josh Shearer (15:46.0) and Jack Williams (16:00.2) finished 18th and 25th among a field of 42 runners.

For Tulsa, Johnny Livingstone and Charlie Krasnoff paced the Hurricane, taking third and fourth, respectively, with times of 15:09.0 and 15:12.4. Chris McLeod placed seventh (15:16.2) and Chanel Muir ninth (15:19.7), giving Tulsa four runners in the top 10. Sean Korsmo (12th, 15:27.7), Ryan Shumaker (13th, 15:35.5) and Colton Berquist (19th, 15:48.4) all grabbed top 20 placements on Friday. Ben Black was 26th (16:01.4), followed by Iain Salter (16:04.8) and Gian Pulido in 41st (16:56.2).

For the Cowboys, Kian Davis led the way for the Cowboys, finishing sixth overall with his time of 15:15.4. Loann Brelivet was 14th (15:36.6), Daniel Nickell was 15th (15:38.9), Grant Wilcox was 20th (15:50.1) and Wyatt Landis was 30th (16:06.9) rounded out the scorers for OSU. Ben Calusinski was 36th (16:23.3), Gabe Simonsen was 37th (16:23.3) and Tate Barr was 38th (16:30.9).

For OU, sophomore Peter Makuei and junior Colin Caso led the way for the men’s team, finishing 22nd and 23rd. Makuei notched a time of 15:55.1 while Caso completed the race in 15:56.9. Fernando Morales was 28th (16:04.2), Gabe Medina was 32nd (16:09.2), Nicholas Young was 33rd (16:13.5) and Josh Cherry was 40th (16:36.8).

In the women’s division, Arkansas almost had a perfect score, settling for wining the event with 16 points, followed by OSU (53), Southern Methodist University (68), Tulsa (105) and OU (149).

Sydney Thorvaldson led the Razorbacks by winning the 3,000m race in 10 minutes, 14.1 seconds. True freshman Paityn Noe placed second overall in 10:14.8 during her Razorback debut while teammates Mary Ellen Eudaly and Laura Taborda were third and fourth with times of 10:22.6 and 10:24.1, respectively.

OSU’s Cayden Dawson finished fifth in 10:25, just ahead of Arkansas’ Mia Cochran, who placed sixth in 10:25.8 to complete the Razorback team score.

Heidi Nielson posted a time of 10:27.4 to finish seventh overall while Nyah Hernandez placed 10th in 10:42.6 as they were Arkansas’ sixth and seventh runners. Another pair of Razorbacks finished 16th and 17th with Olivia Pielemeier (10:48.5), competing unattached, and Mackenzie Rogers (10:49.3).

For the Cowgirls, after Dawson’s fifth-place finish, Krystal Rodriguez was eighth (10:29.9), Lilly Lavier was 11th (10:43.6), Grace Ping was 15th (10:48.2) and Madi Surber was 18th (10:51.2) to round out the scoring column for OSU.

The Cowgirls had nine other runners compete. Jinan Mahi was 20th (11:03), Kevriana Scott was 29th (11:21), Caden Brickman was 32nd (11:25.6), Zoie Kidd was 33rd (11:26.2), Linda Bkaich was 36th (11:44), Emma Lindsey was 39th (11:54.5), Katie Armstrong was 40th (12:03.5), Abby Pickett was 41st (12:04.1) and Jinah Mickens-Malik was 52nd (14:20.7).

For TU’s women, Chloe Hershenow was their highest finisher, running the 3,000-meter course in 11:11.9. Hershenow’s finish was the first of a five consecutive placing finish for TU as Alicen Ashley was 24th (11:12), Katharina Pesendorfer was 25th (11:12), Robyn Kowalski was 26th (11:12.1) and Avery Hill was 27th (11:14.5). Tamara Reeves was 30th (11:23.6), while Billie Rouse was 46th (12:50.7).

For OU’s women, sophomore Erin O’Brien placed 31st with a time of 11:24.4. O’Brien was followed by junior Gabi Barrera (35th, 11:39.1) and junior Grace Williamson (38th 11:51.9). Brooklyn James was 42nd (12:07.6), Lily Horvath was 44th (12:20.2), Kel McDavid was 45th (12:45.6), Nicole Clifford was 49th (13:11.7), Tarry Lowry was 53rd (14:22.2) and Allie Lyda was 54th (14:49.9).
