The Central Tigers will play their home opener against the Warner Eagles at 7 tonight at Tiger Stadium.
“We’re super excited about the home opener,” Central coach Jeremy Thompson said. “It’s going to be a big night. The two schools have been playing each other for a long time. I think this will be like our 17th meeting. Our guys have been working hard all week. We’re definitely ready for the game.”
The Tigers (1-0) won their season opener last week on the road against Heavener by a score of 32-23.
“We had two big plays from (quarterback) Joseph (Lee) to (receiver) Cade (Tucker) that made a big difference in the game,” Thompson said. “We made plays when we needed to. Cade had an awesome game. So did Joseph. Our offensive line played well. Across the board, I was very pleased with how we played. We’re happy with the result, and we’re ready for Warner. The momentum you have coming off a win, going into another big football game, such as this one, is a very good thing. You win your (season) opener, you keep that excitement going in your non-district contests. Those games are important to win. They just are. We approach each game the same. We’re looking forward to this one.”
While the win made everyone happy campers, there’s still some miscues that needed to be addressed this week.
“It’s early on, but we made first-game mistakes,” Thompson said. “Going into this week, we can’t make the same mistakes we made before.”
The Eagles (1-0) also won their season opener, routing Savanna 61-8.
“They have a good football team,” Thompson said. “They’re coached well. They play hard. They have a dual threat at quarterback in Jace Jackson. He can throw it. He runs well. He’s got a good receiving corps to throw to. They use three running backs in the backfield.”
