Golden Hurricane falls to No. 8 Washington

SEATTLE — The No. 8-ranked Washington Huskies lived up to its billing with a 43-10 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday afternoon in front of 63,128 fans at Husky Stadium.

SEATTLE — The No. 8-ranked Washington Huskies lived up to its billing with a 43-10 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday afternoon in front of 63,128 fans at Husky Stadium.

Tulsa fell to 1-1 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 2-0. The Hurricane will play another Top 20 opponent when the Oklahoma Sooners visit Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium for a 2:30 p.m. Saturday kickoff.

Washington took an early 7-0 lead on its first possession and Tulsa responded with a 44-yard field goal by Chase Meyer, making it 7-3. The Huskies scored 15 points to close out the first half for a 22-3 lead.

Washington added 14 points in the third quarter for a 36-3 lead, while Tulsa responded with a fourth quarter that saw the Hurricane go 87 yards in nine plays to make the score 36-10. Roman Fuller connected with Luke McGary on a 15-yard fourth-down touchdown toss.

UW added a final touchdown with three minutes remaining in the contest.

Fuller entered the game for an injured Cardell Williams, who was making his first career start, with 3:55 remaining in the first half. Fuller completed 12of-18 passes for 85 yards, while on the ground Jordan Ford led the way with 67 yards, Bill Jackson added 55 and Anthony Watkins 51 yards.

Tulsa safeties Kanion Williams and Kendarin Ray led the way with seven tackles, while fellow safety Jaise Oliver‘s had five stops and picked off a first-half pass in the end zone.

Washington’s Heisman Trophy candidate Michael Penix completed 28of-38 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns, with two of his passcatchers going for more than 100 yards apiece.

For the game, Washington outgained the Hurricane 563 to 318 yards.
