Lady Wolverines go through undefeated in Lady Tiger Shootout

In the 2023 Central Lady Tigers Shootout, which took place Thursday and Saturday at both Central High School and Roland, the Vian Lady Wolverines went through undefeated as they ended the event with a 3-1 eightinning win over Keys (Park Hill) on Saturday morning at Central High School after they got two victories on Thursday at CHS — 11-0 over Central and 20-0 over Talihina.

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs went 3-1 in the two-day event, beating Central 7-3 and knocking off Warner 2-1 on Saturday at Central High School before splitting their Thursday games in Roland — edging the host Lady Rangers 1-0 before losing 5-0 to Whitesboro.

The host Lady Tigers went 1-3 in their own event. Their lone win came Saturday at home against Talihina, winning 9-1, before losing 7-3 to Muldrow. On Thursday, before losing at home to Vian, the Lady Tigers dropped a 9-5 contest to Keys (Park Hill).

The Lady Rangers lost all three of their games, but all by close margins — losing 1-0 to Whitesboro at home on Saturday. Roland fell 3-2 to Warner on Thursday at home after being nipped by rival Muldrow.

In Vian’s win over Central, the Lady Wolverines (17-5) scored once in the first inning, four runs in each of the second and fourth innings and twice in the fifth inning.

For the game, Maisie Wells was 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs scored and two RBIs, Gibbins was 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, LaKaila Drew was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Rebel Simon was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Gibbins (15-4) got the win, throwing a two-hitter and fanning four batters in five innings.

In defeat, Ayrland Jiles and Cheyenne Busch each singled for the Lady Tigers (4-19).

Kallie Henning (0-1) took the loss, going the first three innings with a strikeout. Jiles went the final two innings with three Ks.

In Muldrow’s win over Roland, the game’s lone run scored on Amaya Duran’s RBI single, scoring Ashley Price, in the sixth inning.

For the game, Amarie Duran was 3-for-3, Danica Tune was 2-for-3 and Amaya Duran was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Lady Bulldogs (9-12). Jaydin Dean got the win, getting two strikeouts in six innings.

In defeat, Emily Daws was 3-for-3, while Sara Qualls was 2-for-3 for the Lady Rangers (7-15). Daws (5-9) took the loss, despite recording six Ks in six innings.

In Muldrow’s win over Central, the Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 3-1 after three innings, scored six runs in the fourth inning to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Tune was 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Kaydence Young was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Dean was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Amarie Duran was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Young got the win, fanning five batters in four innings and throwing a two-hitter.

In defeat, Jiles tripled and Avery Warner singled for Central. Jiles (3-18) suffered the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in four innings.

In Vian’s victory over Talihina, the Lady Wolverines scored all 20 runs in the first inning.

For the game, Wells was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored, Drew was 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Hanna Mattingly was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Akeelah Truett was 2-for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Skyelar Locust tripled with two runs scored and an RBI.

Gibbins got the win, striking out eight batters and throwing a no-hitter.

In Vian’s win over Keys (Park Hill), the Lady Wolverines broke a 1-all tie with two runs in the eighth inning.

For the game, Matttingly was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Drew doubled with a run scored and an RBI.

Gibbins got the win as she fanned 11 batters in eight innings.

In Central’s win over Talihina, Jiles threw a four-inning onehitter with eight strikeouts.

All the run support Jiles needed came in the first inning as Central scored five runs for a 5-0 lead.

For the game, Avery Warner and Rylee Rowland each singled.

In Muldrow’s win over Warner, after the Lady Eagles tied the game at 1 in the seventh inning, Dean’s sacrifice fly scored Young with the game-winner in the eighth inning.

For the game, Young was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Dean got the win, throwing a four-hitter with two Ks.

In Central’s loss to Keys (Park Hill), the Lady Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.

An error allowed Avery Warner to score Central’s first run of the game in the first inning to cut the deficit to 6-1.

After Keys (Park Hill) scored once in the second inning, the Lady Tigers scored twice in the third inning on Alyvia Warner’s RBI groundout and a passed ball to cut the Keys (Park Hill) lead to 7-3 after three innings.

After the Lady Cougars made it 8-3 in the top of the fourth inning, Central responded with two runs in its half of the frame on an RBI singles by Jiles and Alyvia Warner to cut the deficit to 8-5 after four innings, but the Lady Tigers got no closer.

Jiles took the loss, despite recording four strikeouts in five innings.

In Muldrow’s loss to Whitesboro, Whitesboro pitcher Madison Grogan threw a two-hitter.

A pair of singles, one each by Amarie Duran and Young, was all Muldrow could muster off Grogan. Young took the loss, despite getting six Ks in five innings.

In Roland’s loss to Warner, the Lady Eagles broke a 2-all tie in the sixth inning after the Lady Rangers tied the game in the top of the inning on an error that allowed Addyson Clark to score.

After Warner scored twice in the second inning for a 2-0 lead, Roland scored its first run on a passed ball, allowing Clark to score, to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning.

In defeat, Clark and Lilly Cole each singled for Roland. KyLeigh Knapp (2-5) took the loss, despite getting four strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

In Roland’s loss to Whitesboro, the game’s lone run scored in the third inning when Whitesboro broke a scoreless tie.

In defeat, Kynlei Earnhart, Scarlett Qualls and Knapp each singled for Roland’s three hits. Daws took the loss, getting a strikeout in five innings.
