SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A pair of Oral Roberts University standouts captured the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s Soccer Peak Performer of the Week awards. Forward Luis Flores earned the offensive honor, while goalkeeper Jakub Grzesiak garnered the defensive honor, league officials announced Monday.
Flores provided the game-winning goal in both of ORU’s victories during the reporting period that extended into Monday’s Labor Day action. Flores opened the period with a brace in last Monday’s 5-3 win at Cal Poly, scoring both the equalizer and game-winner against the Mustangs.
In Friday’s 1-0 victory over crosstown-rival Tulsa, Flores’ goal in the 63rd minute proved to the difference as the Golden Eagles improved to 3-0. In a 1-0 loss to SMU last night, Flores put three of his four shots on target as ORU’s offense forced Mustang goalkeeper Cole Johnson to make six saves.
Flores and Denver’s Oje Ofunrein were both named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday.
Grzesiak totaled seven saves during a 2-1 stretch for the Golden Eagles. He recorded his second shutout of the season against Tulsa, stopping three shots in the 1-0 victory, then added three more saves in the 1-0 loss at No. 11 SMU.
