Sallisaw man dies after being struck by train
A 29-year-old Sallisaw resident reportedly lost his life on Sunday morning after being struck by a Union Pacific train at 8:23 a.m., half a mile east of the N. Shurley St. railroad crossing, about one mile east of Sallisaw.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Joshua Aden, #211, from the Sequoyah County detachment of Troop C, reported Jason Shockey was pronounced deceased at the scene by Pafford EMS personnel.
The train involved in the collision, a 1988 General Electric engine pulling 101 railcars, was operated by Byron Wright, an employee of Union Pacific Railroads. Wright reportedly emerged from the collision unharmed.
The train was traveling eastbound when it came upon Shockey, who was reportedly standing on the train tracks when he was struck.
The sequence of events leading up to the accident remains under investigation, and the precise cause of the collision has not yet been determined, according to the preliminary accident report.
Aden was assisted in his efforts by Trooper Preston Smith, Trooper Joa’n Alvarez and Lt. Jeff Fielder, all of Troop C; Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office; Pafford EMS; Sallisaw Police Department; and Sallisaw Fire Department.
