4 ORU cross country runners finish in Top 10 at Bob Timmons Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Oral Roberts men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2023 campaign Saturday morning at the Bob Timmons XC Classic at Rim Rock Farm.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Oral Roberts men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2023 campaign Saturday morning at the Bob Timmons XC Classic at Rim Rock Farm.

In his Golden Eagle debut, freshman Andrew Smithwick placed fourth after recording a time of 18:58.17.

Erik Flores Burciaga, a Summit League Preseason Athlete to Watch, finished right behind Smithwick with a personal-best time of 18:58.88. The fifth-place finish marked the highest of the senior’s career.

Alex Leshan Ntiyani rounded out the top-10 finishers on the men’s side after placing ninth with time of 19:06.99.

Transfer Patrick Kipkemboi picked up a top-20 finish after racing to a time of 19:52.05.

On the women’s side, Avery Mazzei, a Summit League Preseason Athlete to Watch, registered a time of 19:17.32 en route to her first career top-10 finish.

Macey Penner picked up the first top-20 finish of her Golden Eagle career after placing 16th with a time of 19:37.11.

As a team, the men placed second, finishing four points ahead of Power 5 foe Kansas State.

On the women’s side, the Golden Eagles placed third.

The Golden Eagles travel to Stillwater for the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 23.
