Fishing Report for September 13, 2023
EUFAULA: Sept. 8. Elevation is a foot below normal (falling), water temperature 85 degrees and stained. Bass, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass and Spotted fair on crankbaits, jigs, lipless baits and plastic baits around main lake, points, riprap and rocks. Bass and White good on crankbaits, in-line spinnerbaits and minnows around flats, main lake and riprap. Catfish, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead fair on cut bait, live bait, live shad and shad around channels, river channel and river mouth. GRAND: Sept. 11. Elevation is normal (stable), water temperature 83 degrees and stained. Bass and Largemouth fair on plastic baits and topwater lures around coves, docks, points and weed beds. Catfish, Blue, Catfish and Channel good on shad around flats, main lake and river channel. Bass and White good on in-line spinnerbaits, plastic baits and tube jigs around points. Comments: The bite on Grand has been struggling with the end of summer heat that seems to never end! White bass are still working shallows, points and humps on windy days. Bass have been slow but steady and catfish remain decent on cut bait in the main lake on flats coming out of the main river channel! Report by Hank Jenks, game warden, Delaware County.
GREENLEAF: Sept. 11. Elevation is normal (stable), water temperature 88 degrees and clear. Bass and Largemouth fair on crankbaits, plastic baits, slabs, spinnerbaits and topwater lures around coves, points and weed beds. Catfish and Channel fair on chicken liver and worms around creek channels and main lake. Black Crappie and White Crappie slow on jigs and minnows around brush structure and docks. LOWER ILLINOIS: Sept. 8. Elevation is normal (stable), water temperature 60 degrees and clear. Trout and Rainbow fair on caddis flies, in-line spinnerbaits, midges, nymphs and PowerBait around below the dam and other. Comments: Best times are early morning and late evening and best areas are below the dam and at the Watts area. Report submitted by Brek Henry, game warden Sequoyah County.
ROBERT S. KERR: Sept. 8. Elevation is normal (stable), water temperature 81 degrees and murky. Bass, Largemouth Bass and Spotted fair on buzz baits, minnows, plastic baits, small lures, spinnerbaits and topwater lures around brush structure, coves, creek channels, rocks and standing timber. Catfish, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead good on chicken liver, cut bait, grass hoppers, shad, shrimp, stinkbait, sunfish and worms around below the dam, main lake, river channel, river mouth and tailwater.
