Sallisaw Lady Diamonds lose district road game to Fort Gibson

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds lost their district road game 13-3 to the host Fort Gibson Lady Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. The game originally was scheduled for Tuesday but got rained out.

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds lost their district road game 13-3 to the host Fort Gibson Lady Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. The game originally was scheduled for Tuesday but got rained out.

Things started well for the Lady Diamonds (1-13 overall, 0-10 in district play) as Jaycie Cox’s twoout, two-run single, scoring Madison Green and Makenna Borman, put Sallisaw ahead 2-0.

However, that’s when the Lady Tigers took control of the game by scoring five runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning to take the lead for good at 8-2 after two innings.

Sallisaw’s final run scored Cox’s two-out RBI single, scoring Bormann, to cut the deficit to 8-3, but that was as close as the Lady Diamonds got.

In defeat, Cox was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in, Bormann singled and scored twice and Channing Wilson singled for Sallisaw.

Preslee Jackson took the loss, getting the first two outs of the game. Delaney Compton went the rest of the way in relief.

ROLAND 9, OKMULGEE 1

Wednesday in Roland after the doubleheader was rained out Tuesday, the Lady Rangers (9-17) snapped their five-game losing streak with the twinbill sweep.

In the opener, Roland scored twice in the first inning and four runs in the third inning for a 6-0 lead after three innings and never looked back.

For the game, Emily Daws was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Kynlei Earnhart was 2-for-4 with with a run scored, Scarlett Qualls was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Addyson Clark doubled with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Daws (7-11) got the win, striking out nine batters in seven innings and throwing a five-hitter.

In the nightcap, after the Lady Bulldogs scored once in the top of the first inning, the Lady Rangers scored six runs in the first inning, once in the second inning and four runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Scarlett Qualls was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Sara Qualls, Jaydance Bean and Aubriana Gragg each doubled with an RBI and a run scored, while Clark doubled with three RBIs and a run scored.

Daws got the win in relief, going the final 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. KyLeigh Knapp went the first 1.2 innings with a strikeout. The duo combined for a three-hitter.

HENRYETTA 7, VIAN 2

Wednesday at Vian’s Armstrong Park after the game was rained out Tuesday, the Lady Black Knights broke a 1-all tie with a two-run sixth inning for a 3-1 lead.

After the Lady Wolverines (19-6) cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on Rayleigh Terrill’s sacrifice fly, Henryetta put away the game with a four-run seventh inning.

Vian broke the scoreless tie on a wild pitch, scoring Hanna Mattingly, for a 1-0 lead after two innings before Henryetta scored in the fourth inning to knot the game at 1-all.

In defeat, Mattingly was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, while Akeelah Truett doubled for Vian, which saw its 10-game winning streak snapped.

Kala Gibbins (17-5) took the loss, despite striking out five batters in seven innings.

TUESDAY’S GAMES RAINED OUT

Three games were rained out Tuesday — Checotah at Muldrow, McCurtain at Gans and Webbers Falls at Keota.

Muldrow coach Luke Folkerts said the Checotah game has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, but Gans coach Laney James and Webbers Falls coach Kera Carter each said their respective games likely won’t be rescheduled.
