Members learn to clear the clutter

By Billie Anthony

Eleven ladies weighed in today. We had a net loss of 12 pounds and Neve had the best weight loss of 5.4 pounds. Our chapter challenge is to not eat anything after 7pm this coming week. Our Two Bit Bowl winner was Brenda. We started the Ladder contest this week. Six ladies clothes pins were placed on the ladder, 2 are on rung 3 and 4 on the first rung. Six ribbons were removed from the Surprise Box. All the ladies did a great job this week, those that gained were with small gains. We can beat our net loss next week!

The program today was “Clearing Your Clutter”. Any season is a good time to get rid of clutter. As we start to think about fall and fall cleaning, we might want to look around us and think about all the “things” we have. Fall is a great time to make positive changes in our lives that help us feel renewed. At any season, getting organized and getting rid of things we no longer value is a great way to get a fresh start. Did you know that clearing clutter can be a significant stress reliever and an energy booster? When we have too much “stuff”, we often feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of taking care of so many things or we feel claustrophobic. We can feel like our lives have become controlled by our many possessions. Clutterclearing experts say that sorting out your life by sorting out your junk will eventually result in your feeling lighter and having more energy. Clearing clutter has recently grown into an industry; we now have “Organizing Experts” to help us get rid of our excess material baggage, but you can do it all on your own if you make it a priority, commit to doing the hard work, understand the steps and enjoy the journey. Like all things, clearing clutter is a choice that you make. Experts recommend that you consider the following categories: 1. Things you do not use or love; 2. Things that are untidy or disorganized; 3. Too many things in too small a space; 4. Anything broken or unfinished—fix, finish or get rid of it! This week we are going to walk through our homes and make a list of cluttered areas. Prioritize them in terms of their importance. An added challenge for our chapter this week is to bring is the oddest piece of clutter we want to get rid of. It will be fun to see who finds a treasure in our junk.
