The ‘Saving Fred’ challenge

Mrs. Wise's seventh and eighth grade Science Lab classes at Roland Middle School really enjoyed her 'Saving Fred' challenge. This project based learning activity allowed the students to use applied problem solving. Fred had to be saved using only four paper clips. Students created a flowchart to show the sequence of operations to save Fred. They used detailed pictures, labeled major parts within their diagram and included a written description of each diagram.
