Gore, Sallisaw girl runners finish 1-2 at Sallisaw Invitational; Black Diamonds 2nd

It was a local 1-2 finish at Saturday morning’s Sallisaw Invitational cross country meet as Gore’s Hallie Kinion won the high school girls’ two-mile race with a time of 14:24.76, with Sallisaw’s Molly Carver coming in runner-up (15:18.56).

As a team, the host Lady Diamonds were third in the team standings with 64 points, finishing behind team champion Sequoyah-Tahlequah (29 points) and Fort Gibson (36).

Besides Kinion and Carver, two other local runners medaled as Central’s Alyvia Warner was 10th (16:09.56) and Sallisaw’s Nicci Davis was 14th (17:04.54).

Rounding out the other local finishers, Gore’s Amelia White was 17th (17:44.51), Central’s Raleigh Ford was 18th (18:15.18), Sallisaw’s Haley Birdtail was 20th (18:29.64), Sallisaw’s Jazmyne Wright was 22nd (19:00.09), Sallisaw’s Michelle Laudan was 23rd (19:06.24), Central’s Ryleigh Pierce was 25th (19:13.34), Sallisaw’s Kali Crowe was 27th (19:44.98) and Central’s Callie Huff was 29th (20:24.09).

In the high school boys’ three-mile race, the host Black Diamonds were runners-up in the team standings with 44 points, finishing behind team champ Sequoyah-Tahlequah, which had 17 points.

Six Sallisaw boys medaled as they made the top 15. Jodie Sama Salinas was fourth (19:32.68), Jonas Reid was seventh (21:03.21), Dawson Glover was 11th (22:23.6), Cash Mayfield was 12th (23:17.09), Jorge Thomason was 13th (23:24.31) and Tyler File was 14th (24:20.95). Ethan Wilhite was 20th (29:50.95).

In both junior high races, Central finished in second place as a team in both. The Tigers scored 32 points, finishing six points behind the champion Fort Gibson Tigers (26 points).

Three Tigers medaled as they finished in the top 15 in the two-mile race. Caden Bair was runner-up (14:02.76), Kage Poindexter was fifth (14:54.84) and Koleman Edwards was 13th (16:31.28).

Four other local runners medaled. Gore’s Trenton Cunningham was eighth (15:57.04), Gore’s Weston Cunningham was 10th (16:13.23), Brushy’s Oliver Frederick was 12th (16:20.17) and Gore’s Cole Brooksher was 14th (16:37.73).

As for other Central runners, Mason Louthan was 19th (19:06.21) and Ian Greer was 25th (21:01.12). Brushy’s Liam Plattner was 23rd (20:27.79).

In the JH girls’ one-mile race, the Lady Tigers as a team were second with 38 points, just finishing behind Fort Gibson (32 points). The Brushy Lady Mountaineers were third (68 points).

Four Lady Tigers medaled as they finished in the top 15. Sara Williams was third (6:44.35), Emma Baggs was fifth (7:00.87), Sadie Huff was sixth (7:06.93) and Graye Riggs was ninth (7:34.76).

The Lady Mountaineers also had two medalists as Elizabeth Fleetwood was fourth (6:46.67) and Scarlett Harrison was seventh (7:10.92).

Also joining the medalists list was Liberty’s Hayley Bentley, who finished 11th (7:40.62).

As for other Lady Tigers, Scotti Wilson was 16th (7:48.43), Bryar Goodson was 17th (7:54.93), Callie Thompson was 33rd (9:42.87) and Ellie Greer was 37th (10:42.21).

As for other Lady Mountaineers, Phebi McMurtry was 18th (7:56.53), Jaden Fleetwood was 24th (8:24.28) and Tayah Pena was 30th (8:57.32).
