Sallisaw loses suspended district game to Muldrow before losing to district foe Stigler

It was a rough Thursday afternoon for the Sallisaw Lady Diamonds softball team as they lost two district games on the same day.

It was a rough Thursday afternoon for the Sallisaw Lady Diamonds softball team as they lost two district games on the same day.

After losing the Sept. 19 suspended district game 8-3 to the host Muldrow Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Diamonds then traveled to district foe Stigler and fell to the host Lady Panthers 3-0.

In the suspended game with Muldrow, which was stopped in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Lady Bulldogs (11-14 overall, 3-8) in district play) leading 5-1, Muldrow scored three runs in the fifth inning for an 8-1 lead after five innings as Raya Keenan’s two-run double and Danica Tune’s RBI single produced the runs.

The Lady Diamonds (1-16, 0-12) scored once in each of the last two innings as Emma Lessley’s RBI groundout in the sixth inning and Delaney Compton’s RBI single in the seventh inning ended the game’s scoring.

For the game, Amarie Duran was 3-for-3 with two doubles two runs batted in and a run scored, Tune was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an Rbi, Ashley Price was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Jaydin Dean was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Kaydence Young doubled with three RBIs and a run scored and Keenan her a two-run double and scored once for Muldrow.

Dean got the win, getting five strikeouts in six innings. Young pitched the final inning with a strikeout.

In defeat, Channing Wilson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored, while Sydney Weedon doubled and scored once for Sallisaw. Preslee Jackson took the loss, despite striking out two batters in six innings.

In Sallisaw’s loss to Stigler, the Lady Panthers broke a scoreless deadlock with a three-run second inning.

Stigler pitcher Cambry Cook threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Wilson got Sallisaw’s only hit. Jackson took the loss, getting a strikeout in five innings.

VIAN 3, CHECOTAH 2, 8 INN.

Monday at Checotah, the Lady Wolverines (24-7) broke a 2-all tie in the eighth inning on a one-out RBI double by LaKaila Drew that scored Kala Gibbins with the game-winning run.

For the game, Drew was 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI double, Gibbins doubled and scored once and Skyelar Locust doubled and scored once.

Gibbins (22-6) got the win. striking out nine batters in eight innings.
