Vian Police Chief provides football game reminders

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

The Vian Police Department would like to make a few announcements regarding Friday night football games.

The Vian Police Department would like to make a few announcements regarding Friday night football games.

Vian Police Chief Mark Harkins said school administrators are asking them to remind parents and guardians that all elementary students, who are in attendance at the football game, must be accompanied by an adult.

“These students cannot be dropped off,” Harkins said. “If an elementary student is found to be there without adult supervision, the parent or guardian will be called to come and pick the student up.”

Harkins said there will also be no large backpacks or pocketknives allowed inside the games.

“We do not want to slow the gate entry process or have to look inside people’s belongings,” he said. Attendees are also asked to remember that the entire school campus, including parking lots and the stands, are smoke free.

“Vian Public Schools is a smoke and tobacco free campus, which includes vapes,” he said.

Harkins said in addition, the department received several complaints on the smell of marijuana.

“Please remember, if you have a medical marijuana card, you cannot have that medication on school property as well,” he said.

The police chief said he wishes to thank everyone for their cooperation in making this a great environment for student-athletes and citizens.
