WAGONER — The Sallisaw Lady Black Diamonds softball team split their first two games in Wednesday’s action in the Class 4A Regional Tournament.
The Lady Diamonds staved off elimination with a 19-7 rout of the Seminole Lady Chieftains after losing 9-0 to the regional-host Wagoner Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Diamonds (2-17) were trying to stave off elimination Thursday with an 11 a.m. loser’s-bracket final against the Stilwell Lady Indians. The winner was going to have to beat Wagoner twice to not only win the regional title, but keep their season going with a spot in next week’s Class 4A Super Regional.
In the win over Seminole, Channing Wilson hit her firstever varsity home run, while Makenna Bormann doubled. Preslee Jackson got the win.
In the loss to Wagoner, Wagoner pitcher Zoie Griffin struck out 17 batters and threw a one-hitter.
The Lady Bulldogs (19-10-1) broke a scoreless tie with a fiverun fourth inning and a four-run sixth inning.
Bormann’s double was the only hit for Sallisaw. Jackson took the loss, getting a strikeout.
