After beating UCF, Cowgirls’ soccer team’s winning streak snapped by TCU

On Thursday, the OSU winning streak reached five with a 2-1 home win over Central Florida at Neal Patterson Stadium.
In Sunday’s loss to TCU, TCU tallied the match’s only score in the 17th minute when A.J. Hennessey delivered her third goal of the season, sending a 22-yard shot top shelf to the near post.
The Cowgirls’ top scoring opportunities came late as they battled for the equalizer. Logan Heausler sent a shot from near the endline just over the crossbar in the 80th minute, and Megan Haines delivered a shot in the 82nd minute that was saved.
Statistically, the match was even, with OSU outshooting the Horned Frogs by a 9-8 margin and owning a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks. The Cowgirls (11-3-0 overall, 4-0-1 in Big 12 play) entered the match fourth nationally in scoring but were shutout for only the second time this season.
Grace Gordon finished with three saves for the Cowgirls, while TCU’s Lauren Kellett had two.
In Thursday’s home win over UCF, Ellie Geoffroy knocked in her third goal of the season, while Xcaret Pineda cashed in for the sixth time, one back of the team lead.
Gordon, who has allowed only two goals during OSU’s five-game winning streak, recorded four saves against the Knights.
The Cowgirls jumped out in front in the 15th minute when Laudan Wilson took a corner kick from the near side and connected with Geoffroy for the point-blank header. It marked Wilson’s sixth assist of the season, tying her for the team lead.
OSU dominated offensively in the opening half, outshooting the Knights by a 15-3 margin and taking the 1-0 lead into intermission.
UCF evened the score in the 53rd minute on a Dayana Martin goal, but the score was not tied for long.
Less than eight minutes later, Pineda put the Cowgirls back on top. After controlling the ball when it ricocheted off a defender, she blasted a shot from 30-yards out that UCF goalie Caroline DeLisle was unable to control.
OSU kept the Knights at bay over the final 30 minutes despite the visitors outshooting the Cowgirls 13-9,in the final half.
OSU returns to action this week with a pair of road matches, taking on Cincinnati on Thursday before a Sunday showdown with West Virginia.
