CANADIAN — The Gore Pirates kept their perfect overall record and remained undefeated in District A-8 play with a 58-0 rout of the Canadian Cougars on Thursday night.

The Pirates (5-0 overall, 2-0 in district play) jumped out to a 30-0 lead after a quarter.

Bladin McCartney scored on touchdown runs of 3 and 53 yards, then scored the two-point conversion after his first TD while Tate Brooksher scored the two-point conversion after McCartney’s second touchdown for a 16-0 lead.

Brooksher then scored two rushing TDs to end the opening period on runs of 65 and 30 yards. McCartney scored the two-point conversion after the second TD, but Luis Schyktanz missed the extra point on Brooksher’s first score.

Gore then scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 51-0 lead at halftime.

McCartney scored his third TD of the game, this time on defense, as he returned a fumble recovery 30 yards to paydirt.

Brooksher accounted for his third touchdown of the game, this one by use of his throwing arm, as he connected on a 30-yard TD pass to Journey Shells.

Hunter McGee scored the second period’s final touchdown on an 8-yard TD run. Schyktanz hit all three PATs of the quarter.

The lone second-half touchdown was Brooksher’s second touchdown pass of the game, hitting Bryon McDuffie on a 34-yard strike. Schyktanz hit the extra point.

For the game, McCartney rushed for 114 yards and scored two TDs and two two-point conversions, while Brooksher threw for 158 yards and three TDs — with 60 of those yards and one of the touchdowns going to Shells.

Defensively, Jagger Moore led the way with seven tackles, followed by Keeton Rowe with six tackles. McGee had a 40-yard interception return, while Dayton Smith had an INT and two tackles, one tackle for loss.
