Tragic accident claims life of Vian woman

A collision that occurred on Highway 64, about two miles east of Vian on Saturday at around 11:51 a.m., has claimed the life of a Vian woman.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Beverly Asbill, 83, was transported to St. John Tulsa Hospital by Air Evac with head injuries. The condition of the driver is currently under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.

Tragically, a passenger in the vehicle, Kimberlee Odonnell, 50, lost her life in the collision. She was transported by Pafford EMS to Sallisaw Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 12:37 p.m.

According to the preliminary accident report, Asbill was driving ta 1990 Toyota Tercel westbound when it ran off the roadway to the right. The vehicle rolled about one time before coming to a rest. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation, and authorities are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The report indicates that the vehicle was not equipped with airbags. However, the driver was using a seatbelt at the time of the accident, while the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, coming to rest about two feet away.

An investigation into the accident is being led by Trooper Joshua Aden #211 and Trooper Spencer Schmille #353 of the Sequoyah County detachment of Troop C. They were assisted by Trooper Preston Smith #795 and LT. Sheldon Dobbs #116, as well as the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, Pafford EMS, McKey Fire Department, and Air Evac.
