Golfers finish 11th at Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Oklahoma State Cowboys golf team posted a closing 287 at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday to finish in 11th place at Shady Oaks Country Club.
The Cowboys’ 14-over total of 854 was a shot behind Texas and Texas A&M at the par-70, 6,885-yard layout. Vanderbilt clipped the field by a shot, finishing at 824 and a stroke better than North Carolina in the team race.
Vanderbilt’s Cole Sherwood won the individual title on the first playoff after posting a 203 total for the event.
For OSU, senior Jonas Baumgartner finished with a 72 to get in with a 213 total and tied for 34th place.
Joining Baumgartner at 213 was freshman Gaven Lane, who posted a closing 70.
Sophomore John Wild wrapped up play with a 72 to finish tied for 38th place at 214.
Fifth-year golfer Rayhan Thomas carded his second consecutive 73 to finish at 218 and tied for 52nd place.
Fifth-year golfer Hazen Newman posted a 74 during his third round to finish at 219 and tied for 57th place.
The Cowboys will close out their fall slate next week when they travel to Texas to take part in the Big 12 Match-Play Tournament at Houston Oaks Country Club.
