HOCKLEY, Texas — The Oklahoma State men’s golf team wrapped up pool play at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Tuesday morning with a 4-1 loss to Texas Tech at Houston Oaks.

HOCKLEY, Texas — The Oklahoma State men’s golf team wrapped up pool play at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Tuesday morning with a 4-1 loss to Texas Tech at Houston Oaks.

After knocking off Kansas and West Virginia on Monday, the Cowboys returned to the par-71, 7,007-yard layout on Tuesday looking to move to 3-0 in Pool D.

OSU freshman Preston Stout provided the Cowboys’ point with a 1-up win over Jack Wall. Stout won the first hole of the tilt before Wall pulled even five holes later. Stout trailed for just one hole after losing the third, but pulled even at the fourth. He would regain the lead at the eighth before tying the final three holes to secure the victory.

Sophomore John Wild fell 2 and 1 in his match with Calum Scott, while freshman Gaven Lane lost by the same margin to Matthew Comegys.

After a pair of impressive victories on Monday, senior Jonas Baumgartner suffered his first defeat of the event, a 3-and-1 setback at the hands of Tyran Snyders.

Freshman Johnnie Clark lost 4 and 3 against Ben Gregg.

The afternoon session saw the Cowboys square off with top-seeded Texas with the Longhorns prevailing 3-1-1.

Wild got the Pokes on the board with a 1-up win over Nathan Petronzio. Wild was three down through seven holes before he mounted his comeback. Down two with seven to play, Wild won the 12th and tied the match at the 15th before claiming the 16th for his first lead of the day.

Clark went back and forth in his match with Keaton Vo with Vo taking two different leads, Clark leading for two holes and three separate ties. Clark won the 16th for his first lead of the afternoon before Vo claimed the 18th to tie the match.

The Longhorns’ first two points came courtesy of a 4-and-2 win from Brian Stark over Stout and a 2-and-1 triumph by Christiaan Maas over Lane. Jacob Sosa provided UT’s third point with a 1-up win over Baumgartner.

Five Cowboys competing individually at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational wrapped up play on Tuesday at Sand Creek Station.

Fifth-year golfer Rayhan Thomas collected his first career victory, firing a closing 65 to finish four shots clear of the field at 16-under 200.

After opening with rounds of 68 and 67, Thomas saved his best for last with his 7-under closing total. Thomas started his final round at the 16th and opened with back-to-back birdies.

After recording pars at Nos. 1 and 2, he reeled off three birdies in a row before carding his lone bogey of the day at the seventh. He would add a birdie at the eighth for an outward nine of 3-under 33. He would add two more birdies at the 10th and 11th before a run of four consecutive pars to close out his day.

Fifth-year golfer Hazen Newman closed with a 76 to finish tied for 17th place at 213.

Fifth-year golfer Dillon Stewart closed with a 72 to finish at 218 and tied for 35th place.

Senior Bo Jin posted a 76 during his third round to finish at 218 as well, while junior Jordan Wilson was a stroke back and tied for 40th place after a closing 77.
