The annual Drive Out Domestic Violence caravan will be held today (Thursday, Oct. 19). The caravan is a way for local law enforcement and community members to show solidarity against domestic violence. All are welcome.
The caravan will meet at Roland Police Department at 4:45 p.m. and leave at 5 p.m. to travel on Highway 64 from Roland to Gore, with law enforcement leading the procession, while running their lights and sirens.
When the caravan reaches Sallisaw, the Sallisaw Police Department will help with traffic control as the caravan pauses in front of the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library lawn, and takes a moment of silence where Hayley Middleton will have The Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project will display shirts with anti-domestic violence slogans and words of support for victims/survivors of domestic violence.
If you’d like to make a shirt for The Clothesline Project, you can take it with you to the lawn or give them to either Hayley or Sarah Ridinger beforehand.
“Last year, a few people were even holding signs showing support for victims/survivors,” Ridinger said. “Whichever you choose, we would love to see you raising awareness for Domestic Violence.”
